Initial Setup
Configure your school's academic structure before using the system.
Academic Years and Terms
Before you can start using School Manager, you must set up your academic years and terms. This defines the timeframe for all school activities.
Setting Up Academic Years

Access Setup Page
After registration, you'll be directed to the setup page. You can also access it from Settings > Academic Years > Add Academic Year.

Enter Academic Year Details
Provide the following information:
- Year Name: E.g., "2023-2024" or "Academic Year 2024"
- Start Date: First day of the academic year
- End Date: Last day of the academic year

Add Terms/Semesters
Within each academic year, create terms or semesters:
- Term Name: E.g., "Fall Term", "Semester 1", "Term 1"
- Start Date: First day of the term
- End Date: Last day of the term
Add as many terms as needed (typically 2-4 per year).

Set Current Academic Year and Term
Mark which year and term is currently active. This determines what data is displayed by default throughout the system.
Tip: You can use the "Auto-Detect Term" feature to automatically set the current term based on today's date.
After Initial Setup
Once you've configured your academic structure, you're ready to:
- Add staff and students
- Create departments and subjects
- Set up teaching groups
- Build timetables
Modifying Academic Years Later
You can add, edit, or manage academic years at any time:
- Navigate to Settings in the top-right user menu
- Click on the Academic Years tab
- Use the Add Academic Year button to create new years
- Click on existing years to manage their terms
- Use the Set as Current buttons to change the active period
